Each of three players is dealt 12 cards. The dealer gets 13. The remaining cards form the central draw pile (the "stock").
On each turn, draw from the stock or take the top discard. Then discard one card face-up. Build melds in your hand while keeping your point total low.
Lay down sets (three of a kind) or runs (consecutive same-suit cards). You can also "sapaw" — add cards to opponents' exposed melds — to reduce your hand faster.
Win by going Tongits (emptying your hand), calling a "fight" if you believe you have the lowest points, or having the lowest point total when the stock runs out.
Three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., three Kings or four 7s). One of the most common melds in Tongits.
Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 4♠ 5♠ 6♠). Longer runs are more powerful as they clear more cards.
Play a matching card on top of another player's exposed meld (e.g., adding a 4th King to their set of three). Reduces your hand size while hindering opponents.
Discard your last card after laying all melds. This ends the round immediately and wins regardless of opponents' point totals. The ultimate play.

Laying down melds exposes your progress and invites sapaw plays from opponents. Sometimes it's smarter to hold a complete meld in hand for one or two extra turns while you reduce other dead cards first.
A "fight" call is a bold declaration that you have the lowest point total. It pays well — but if you're wrong and an opponent has fewer points, you lose a penalty stake. Only call a fight when you're genuinely near zero dead-card points.
